Objects and Collectables Di Mano in mano
Our gift shops , including the online vintage shop and the online modern shop , display a large collection of 20th century antiques and design items , selected every day by our experts.
The macro-category of antiques includes a vast collection of bronzes , ceramics , columns , clocks , sets of dishes , boxes , sculptures , tableware , musical instruments , scientific instruments , cups , vases and trays .
But what is meant by antiques? And, in particular, what are antiques?
The generic term antiquarian refers to the collection and trade of objects , books , antique furniture and ancient works of art .
Treating the specific case of antiques , they are considered as such when they date back more than 150 years.
In Di Mano in mano, antique objects are carefully cataloged according to four characteristics: the historical periods to which they belong, the main reference styles, the construction materials and the artists from which they come to life.
Antique objects are therefore objects cataloged between the 15th and 20th centuries.
However, Di Mano in mano mostly specializes in 19th century antiques and 1900s antiques for sale .
Style refers to the set of formal characteristics of an artistic work, an author, a school or an era, for example objects in the Baroque style , the Napoleon III style or the neo-Renaissance style .
The construction materials of vintage objects are many: from precious silver, of which the precious silver trays , silver vases and wonderful entire silver services are made, to wood, from which wonderful wooden boxes or wooden busts come to life. or again, marble and ceramics, from which elegant marble busts , decorative vases and many others derive.
Finally, the word artist describes builders and makers, such as Henry Dasson , or sculptors, such as Nicolò Roccatagliata or Tommaso Gismondi .
The macro-category of modern antiques includes an equally large collection of vases , musical instruments , sculptures , plates , clocks , ceramics , chests , boxes and baskets and a wide variety of other design objects .
But what is meant by modernism? And, in particular, what is meant by design objects?
The term modern design indicates a broad category of furniture , objects and household appliances produced in the mid-1900s, in particular between the post-war period and the 1960s.
Design objects are commonly referred to as those produced between 1930 and 1980, the years through which they are also classified within our stores Di Mano in mano and our online store .
The word designer, a term that literally means designer, i.e. an architect who is in charge of planning and creating a product, represents the second criterion by which we classify our design objects .
Inside our stores Di Mano in mano there are works by Gio Ponti or Piero Fornasetti , well-known designers who have designed and created design objects for the most important production chains in the sector, such as Artemide , Italiana or Fornasetti .
