The '900 was a century of great technological innovations, often born in the military context of the world wars, the accumulation of such knowledge and technologies was the basis of the third industrial revolution. The years of the economic boom saw the emergence of industrial design , thanks to new technologies the products of industrial production became increasingly accessible and affordable for everyone.
In line with industrial development, common taste also changed, in opposition to the classic and baroque style that had characterized the 19th century. Concepts such as functionalism and rationalism spread in general culture, the new modern construction methods dictated the basis of the new aesthetics. The industrial production coming mainly from the second half of the 1900s is defined as modern art , the most innovative period undoubtedly being between the 50s and the 70s. Initially the concept form = function dominated, democratic design was born in the 60s, the homes of millions of people are colored thanks to plastic which allows you to create new forms unthinkable until then. The 70s were a period of great social achievements and significant changes in the way of communicating, dressing and furnishing. The desire to provoke and amaze through eclectic and extravagant choices is affirmed, choices made possible also thanks to the established production technologies, iconic is the 1971 Pratone seat conceived by Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi and Riccardo Rosso for Gufram. The expanded polyurethane representation of a lawn is considered to belong to the pop art movement.
