Additional Information

Artist: Sante Monachesi (1910-1991)

Sante Monachesi was born in Macerata in 1910, where he attended the Professional Art School. Boccioni's volume Futurist Painting and Sculpture inspired his artistic production in the 1930s: with the "spiralitic" and "diagonal" structures in painting and sculpture, his very personal futurist extra plastic was born. In 1932 he founded the "Umberto Boccioni Futurist Group. Futurist Movement of the Marches" with Bruno Tano and others. It was the beginning of an intense dispositive rhythm that saw Monachesi participate in the main events of the third decade: in 1936 he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris; in 1938 he exhibited at the XXI Venice Biennale and at the Exhibition of the Art Department of Columbia University in New York. In 1939 he exhibited at the III Quadriennale in Rome, with a presentation by F. T. Marinetti. In 1936 he attended the Scenography course at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. After his futurist experience, he projects his research into the development of a figurative poetics through large chromatic planes and synthetic threads that characterize his painting of the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1960s, always interested in research, open to new aesthetic adventures and inspired by new plastic materials, Monachesi creates sculptures in foam rubber and polymethyl methacrylate. In 1962 he founded the "Agrà Movement" (agravitational) which, inspired by the first human missions in space, aims to make utopia an aesthetic expression and materializes in the lightness of forms with the works in evelpiuma; subsequently, in the years between 1964 and 1968, he drafts the ideological manifesto. The experience is documented by important and numerous exhibitions: in 1979 the exhibition and conference "L'evelpiuma e l'universo Agrà di Monachesi", is set up in Paris, in the Sorbonne Chapel. His long artistic career is demonstrated by important and in-depth critical contributions on his work and by numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Monachesi died in Rome in 1991.

Technical specification: Oil on Canvas
