Mixed media on paper. Title but readable at the bottom; on the back the artist's stamp with signature, date and title (Pour poissons - Studio sospeso). Caccioni, an artist who was born, trained and still lives in Bologna, is one of the protagonists of a generation that has now reached a definitive linguistic maturity and occupies a prominent space within the contemporary artistic panorama. His research mainly uses unusual materials such as acetates, PVC and, more recently, stage backdrops of nineteenth-century theatrical works, on which he intervenes by painting shapes drawn from a personal memory and from suggestions coming from different cultures and historical periods. A recurring element in Luca Caccioni's work is writing, a self-signifying sign that designs the work and is capable of recounting thoughts; working by superimposition, the images are constructed by adding or subtracting color on the various supports. Work in frame.

Additional Information

Artist: Luca Caccioni (1962)

Born in 1962 in Bologna where he currently lives and works, Luca Caccioni artistically trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in his city. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts of Palermo and Brera and since 2003 he has held the Chair of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. The first important exhibitions in his hometown date back to the early nineties, with the participation in Nuova Officina Bolognese at the Gallery of Modern Art and with the first personal exhibition at the Galleria Spazia. During the same decade, a series of solo exhibitions in various Italian and foreign galleries made the artist immediately bring himself to the attention of the public and critics. In 1994 he won the Michetti Prize, the oldest and longest-running initiative linked to painting after the Venice Biennale. His first personal exhibition in a public space was held in 1997, at the Palazzina dei Giardini of the Civic Gallery of Modena; on this occasion he acts directly on the space by exhibiting an installation and some sculptures and opening the field of research to new means of expression, according to what will become a constant practice of his research. His works are in the collections of important public and private institutions, including the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, the Galleria Civica di Modena, the collection of the CARISBO Foundation in Bologna, the Unicredit Foundation, the BNL, the VAF Foundation in Frankfurt, the Permanente of Milan, the MAC of Lissone.
