Additional Information

Artist: Salomon Corrodi (1810-1892)

Salomon Corrodi, born in Zurich in 1810, trained artistically in Rome where he studied and then moved there permanently. He was an honorary member of the Accademia di San Luca. Initially he used the oil technique, but soon switched to watercolor, which was more congenial to him and which allowed him to achieve considerable success both with critics and on the market. In fact, Corrodi succeeded like few others in rendering the sweet and desolate atmosphere of the Roman countryside in his views. His views of Rome, the Roman Campagna, the Gulf of Naples, Ischia, the Ligurian Riviera and the various other places he visited on his travels, were purchased by Tsar Nicholas I, the English Court and numerous members of the European nobility . Following this commercial success, his paintings were dispersed throughout Europe in museums and private collections and their current whereabouts are often unknown. Corrodi died in Como, during a trip to Switzerland in 1892.
