Description

Text in Latin. Nice frontispiece engraved with an elaborate allegorical scene. Edition of Sallust's work with commentary by philologist Johann Friedrich Gronov (1611-1671), professor of Greek language at the University of Leiden from 1658 and editor of numerous critical editions by Latin authors, including this one on Sallust published in first edition by Francois Hackius (1605-1669), publisher in Leiden. Hackius, a pupil of the Elseviers, mainly publishes Greek and Latin classics given the market opened by the presence of the famous University in Leiden. His typographic work stands out for the accuracy and elegance of the characters, as evidenced by our volume.
